Today’s The Day…

21 05 2010

Friday, May 21st, 2010 ~

Well, today is the day that my beloved new suit will arrive Chez Blanchard. I must send kudos to Vinnie James for picking it up for me, and to Oren, for bringing it to me. I am nervously awaiting the “try on,” as I had to give new measurements, for a new suit. I’m not as trim as I was when I got my last suit, and it still fit me, so I am wondering what is in store for me. The winter was not kind to me, during my back crippling months.

So… there will finally be more Bloggy Thing updates for Diving Goodness! Good timing for the dive season!

w00t!

Lazy Day

8 05 2010

Saturday, May 8th, 2010 ~

Motivation factor was very low in our house today. Eric had camped overnight with us, Β and he and Steve balanced out his new scooter bodies yesterday. Our plans to dive today were a bit squashed, when we woke up to -4 with windchill temperatures and alot of rain. Visibility in the river was going to be absolutely horrible. So, with me about to dive my old suit, without a p-valve, leaking, and not seeing anything, it was easy for me to sit on the side of the fence, closer to home. Although, if the boys had decided to go, I imagine I would have too.

Instead, I hung about the house, had a nap, and made a little photo video. I did need the break, so it wasn’t that big of a deal.

We did still go out for our post dive meal, which happened to be at Moe’s. Best. Tacos. Ever. Ok, at least the best ones I’ve had since Florida.

Tomorrow, we are hoping to go for an afternoon splash. My name is Chantelle. It has been three weeks since my last dive….

Still Dry…

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010 ~

So… our wonderful friends at DUI are taking really good care of me. Apparently, my suit was leaking pretty much everywhere, and that I need to have it completely replaced. I decided to go with the low profile dump this time, instead of the high profile, which did work fine, but I wanted to give the low one a try.

So… it is scheduled to ship in two weeks. I won’t be able to wait that long, so I will be breaking out my very leaky Whites suit this weekend. I will be clad with a giant garbage bag top and big rubber boots.

Oh well.. at least I’ll be diving. πŸ™‚

An old photo. I had forgotten about the cuff dump…

Dry Dry Dry…

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010 ~

Well, it seems I am out of the water for a while, until I receive my drysuit back from DUI. I am not pleased with the supposed “overnight” service, that was not performed by Purolator. I shipped my suit last Thursday, with a delivery date of Friday, and as of yesterday, it was still sitting in the Ottawa Puro depot. I have had a few discussions with them, and they don’t seem to care that I am paying out the wazoo, for a service that I am not getting.

The last I heard, was that it would leave the depot last night… *checking website.*

It seems it is now in Kentucky.

I am hoping for a speedy suit recovery, so that I can get my butt back in the water. I do have a back up suit.. but.. well… its back up days are over.

*Crossing fingers*

Island 99

18 04 2010

Sunday, April 18th, 2010 ~

Since we hadn’t been back to Island 99/Teapot Island in quite a while, we decided to give it a whirl. We wanted to get in there before the weeds overtook the shallows. It can be a royal pain in the behind to scooter through them in the summer.

DGTU…

We weren’t sure what to expect for visibility, due to the rain that we’ve had all week.

Steve, Jeremy, and Jay, scouting the area…

We brought the gear down the hill, and got ready for business…

While gearing up, Jeremy blew a wrist seal, and was unable to dive. Had the water been a bit warmer, the tape option may have worked…lol.

What is great about this spot, is that there can be so much to see. It may appear to be just a giant slope of rock, but there are holes and crevices, fish, crayfish, various items, and even frogs. There was quite a layer of algae along the bottom as well, which we didn’t see as much of last year.

Steve had to look closely for this fella…

Our first find was a sled, which was a pretty cool find…

The terrain is a sloping rock wall, and the water was pretty green. We did not get the visibility that we had expected, but it was still a lot of fun.

Steve found a little rock pile to hide behind. Shall we play “Where’s Blanchard?”

We did quite a tour, found a bottle debris field, a few large crayfish, then made our way back, where we played around in the shallows, taking pictures. We were only in two feet of water, so we had to be extra careful to leave the algae on the bottom.

I took the camera off of the scooter mount, and handed the camera to Steve.

Another fantastic day of scooter diving goodness. Go team!
